Manny is a native of Brooklyn, New York who moved to Georgia as a young kid. Atlanta Aliens General Manager and Head Coach Duck Richards has had his eyes on Manny since the days of Tucker High School where he won a GHSA State Championship. His success led him to being awarded McDonald All-American Nominee coming out of high school. Manny committed to Virginia Tech where he played two years then moved back to Georgia to finish his last two years of college at Georgia State University. If his high school and college career were any indication, the Atlanta Aliens have struck gold.
AT GEORGIA STATE:
Manny started every game in his two-year career, earning All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team honors as a senior . . . One of the most prolific 3-point shooters in program history, making 42.4-percent from beyond the arc . . . Made 124 3-pointers, tenth in program history . . . Finished his career with 917 points at GSU and 1,128 overall.
Recorded seven double-doubles in his career, missing six by just one rebound . . . Had career-highs of 30 points and 12 rebounds which he accomplished four times.
After college, Manny Akins was drafted and assigned to the NBA G-League, Sioux Falls Skyforce but was traded to Grand Rapids Drive where he averaged 16pts a game. After that season, Manny played in the NBA Summer league with the Detroit Pistons.
After the NBA, Manny started his overseas Career playing in Argentina with the Boca Jrs, Turkey, Israel with Hapoel Afula, France with Evreux Basketball.
